A raft-like object with 24 sound plates made of padauk wood and aluminum. Its footprint is 260x160cm. The instrument is elevated, walkable and playable.
As a counterpart, 125 planed spruce sticks hang from the ceiling, on the same footprint as the Xala. The movement of visitors causes the sticks to vibrate and strike each other, creating a delicate sound continuum. Two sticks can be used to play the Xala, creating a connection from top to bottom, from heaven to earth. Deliberately set sound impulses contrast with the random, subtle striking of the hanging wooden sticks.

The title of the room installation: LINEA ALBA (Latin: “white line”) is a term used in anatomy and refers to a vertical connective tissue suture in the middle of the abdomen. It refers to the vertical wooden rod, the uprightness of the human body, and the upward movement from bottom to top that counteracts gravity.

Commissioned by Schlossmediale Werdenberg 2014

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_video src=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EweYVV7oEyk” _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_video][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

LINEA ALBA In a room, the most primal form of the sound body Xala lies on the floor.
